To: Driver Education Students and parents/Guardians Tri-County would like to say thank you to the University of Minnesota Raptor Center for providing this opportunity to our students. For some students, the highlight was watching the owl eat a mouse whole, while for others it was seeing the regal presence of one of America’s symbols up close. Each bird was presented one by one, giving all of our students a unique chance to view the raptors up close on the presenter’s glove. They also work to foster an appreciation for wildlife and the environment through their educational programs featuring ambassador birds that are unable to be released.Īll Tri-County students had the opportunity to learn about what the Raptor Center does, the natural history of the birds, how humans can help with conservation efforts for raptors, and unique information about the four species of birds presented. The Raptor Center is a non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and releases about 1,000 wild eagles, hawks, and owls each year. All the raptors were brought to Tri-County from the University of Minnesota Raptor Center through a grant that allows them to offer free programs to schools. Along with their presenter, Max Borge, were a Red-Tail Hawk, an American Kestrel, a Great-Horned Owl, and a Bald Eagle. Wayne State University, located in the heart of Detroit’s midtown cultural center, is a premier urban research university offering more than 350 academic programs through 13 schools and colleges to more than 28,000 students.On Friday, March 3, the Tri-County School district was honored with the presence of some very special visitors. The James Pearson Duffy Department of Art and Art History is a division of Wayne State’s College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts, educating the next generation of visual artists, designers and art historians. This year’s guest juror is Evan Pavka, Assistant Professor of Interior Design, Art and Art History, WSU.Īrtworks by students from the following high schools are included in this year’s exhibition: Bloomfield Hills High School, Cass Technical High School, Chandler Park Academy High School, Detroit Country Day School, International Academy East, International Academy West, John Glenn High School, Lake Orion High School, Mercy High School, North Farmington High School, Novi High School, Oakland Christian School, Plymouth Christian Academy, Rochester High School, Salem High School, and Sterling Heights High School. The awards include First Place, Second Place, Third Place, three Honorable Mentions, and a Teacher Award. At the opening reception, six awards will be given to students for their outstanding artworks in the exhibition. This exhibition features approximately 80 selected artworks created by high school students from Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties. ![]() Members of the Department of Art and Art History will be on hand to celebrate students’ creative achievements. An opening reception with an awards presentation will be held on Friday, January 27 from 6-8PM.
